Whether from fleas, a food allergy, or a fixation on their skin, a dog that keeps scratching can cause hot spots, infections, and other skin problems that can progress to severe long term problems if you’re not careful.

The Causes of Dog Scratching

There are multiple reasons a dog might scratch incessantly. Before you can stop dog scratching, you must first identify the root cause.

Infection – Infections can be caused by bacteria, yeast, or fungi. Look for greasy sores, hairless patches, or red swelling for any of the three.

Neurogenic – This is a nervous issue that can be caused by excessive licking and chewing. Often, this is caused by a lack of exercise or mental stimulation. It can also be caused by separation anxiety.

Allergenic – Food allergies, flea allergies, plant and dust allergies, and other allergies can all cause skin problems that lead to severe itching.

Nutritional – A dog that doesn’t get the right nutrients in their diet can get dry skin, developing eczema, sores, or simply bad hair that leads to dryness.

Environmental – Too much water from swimming, digging, or playing outside can cause scratching as well.

Parasites – All parasites can cause itching, including ticks, fleas, flies, gnats, and mites. Most medications can stop parasites.

As you can see, before you can stop dog scratching, you must first identify why the scratching started in the first place.

Visiting the Vet

To fully determine where the scratching behaviour is developing from, visit the vet and have your dog thoroughly checked. If it is an infection your dog will need some form of antibiotics, antifungal or cream to remove the effects. Allergies will be treated with antihistamines and a change in diet, and parasites can be treated with flea baths and medications.

Dealing with Neurogenic Scratching

When you go to stop dog scratching, the hardest to stop is the neurogenic cause. All five other issues can be treated with shifts in diet, medication, or change in their exercise routines. For chronic, neurogenic itching, the first thing you really need to do is pinpoint why the dog might feel the urge to continuously scratch his skin.

First, make sure your dog is getting enough exercise. Most of the time, the dog is just bored and has developed a neurotic tick to continuously itch or lick, almost hypnotically. To stop dog scratching due to boredom, you may also need to avert that behaviour. You can do this by putting bitter apple spray or cayenne pepper on your dog’s favourite licking spots.

You can also get a cone from the vet that will not allow the dog to reach those itching hot spots. Once the dog has a better, more active exercise routine, you will be able to slowly return their other activities to normal, removing the cone and the spray.

If your dog continues scratching, make sure you visit the vet again to rule out any other physical ailments. Sometimes, infections can grow in the interim.

Ultimately, your goal as a dog owner is to pay close attention to why your dog might start scratching. Most of the time, it can be easily fixed, but you can never be too careful.

If you want to find out more about <a

The finest way to achieve success rapidly, it is perfect to set a regular program when contemplating on taking your dog outdoors. It is important to utilize a basic instruction to acknowledge whenever the time is right to relieve themselves. Persistently bringing your pet dog outdoors every few hours, with only one, fast directive, for example “go potty”, is actually the best way to begin. Extending the time periods will ultimately help to make life simpler, while still giving your canine the message that relieving himself should be carried out outside the building. In due course they will begin to understand exactly what you expect of them. This may very well contain just as much training for the animal owner as for the pup

The following labrador coaching idea you need to focus on is walking your pup on the lead. This is unquestionably something you will have to get right. Many Labrador retrievers are tremendously strong. Be sure and be relaxed and calm when walking your pup and keep a
rigid leash with the puppy close to you at first.

Even though a lab is quite powerful and self-sufficient dog, additionally it is one who would want to please. What this implies is it is very essential to make them learn to walk beside you, and never in front or behind. Regularly turn your pooch in the opposite way when he starts pulling on the leash, coming back to your initial direction only if he has calmed. This way, your new puppy accepts you as being the leader, which happens to be essential in additional areas of behavior education.

On the way be certain you guide them what exactly is a
suitable thing to bite, which does not consist of people, no matter if carried out in play. To strengthen this you have to offer them with many toys or even rope to chew on till their teeth develop thoroughly. Whenever they do bite, lightly correct them and carry on using a toy as an alternative.

Appropriate labrador dog coaching should have a fine balance of physical exercise, and rigorous regular instructions. Always work with the puppy employing constructive, as well as consistent attitude, in no way using physical punishment to fix unwanted habits. In a
short time, you will have a devoted loving dog.

Learn more about <a

Our…

You’ve heard the saying, “treat everyone the same?” This should also hold true for dogs regardless of whether they are small or large in size. Believe it or not — dogs are often stereotyped in similar manners as people. Our perceptions about the behavior of small chihuahua dogs versus large ones might lead us to false conclusions about whether it’s friendly. Some negative and false perceptions of small pets are they bark more frequently than larger dogs and that they’re meaner due to their lack of size. On the flip side, large dog owners hear about how their pets look like vicious killers that are ready to pounce on their prey, shredding it to pieces. Perceptions about small and large dogs are just that..perceptions. The truth of the matter is the behavior of dogs – from their perspective – has absolutely nothing to do with their size, as you will soon understand.

Believe it or not, the behavior of dogs is relatively consistent. In comparison, it is really not much different than people. We have our good and bad days. Our moods are up one moment and can go down the next. The reason for this is all humans come from the same species. Small and large dogs also come from the same species. In actuality, they come from a subspecies of the wolf, known more commonly as canine. The point is all dogs regardless of size do what is natural and instinctive, much like humans.

Civilized humans are expected to conduct themselves in a specific way or manner that conforms to how society functions. For the most part, it is understood by all people. The same holds true for all dogs based upon their own behavior. But as humans, we often perceive or categorize that behavior based upon their size. For example, if a large 100-pound Boxer jumps on his or her owner, it is considered to be unacceptable. However if a four-pound pet Chihuahua follows through on the same action, it is perceived by some to be, “cute,” making it okay.

The truth is the behavior of the two dogs is exactly the same. The intent of the 100-pound Boxer was to dominate his owner. The same holds true for the four-pound Chihuahua. It is the same behavior with the same intent. Yet, the perception of the large dog is that it is a killer while the perception of the smaller animal is that it is being playful.

The bottom line is that small, medium-sized, or large dogs should ever be allowed to get away with this type of behavior. Dogs don’t think about their size when they are reacting in the moment. In fact, size is not a factor in their minds. It is not uncommon to see a small dog snip at a larger one. As you can see, it doesn’t matter whether a small or large dog commits the same wrongdoing. Both should be disciplined without excuse.

<a

They take into account the breeds natures, the amount of exercise they require, and their needs involving food and other things such as grooming.

However, hardly anyone considers the same kind of things when choosing a new kitten. Admittedly, there are nowhere near as many recognised cat breeds as there are dog breeds, but each one is unique in that they have their own temperaments and special behaviourisms. So which cat would be best suited for your particular lifestyle?

The most popular cat breed, and the most recognisable is the Persian. This large, thick coated cat is most well known for its flat face, and regal appearance. They are calm, quiet pets, and their gentle personalities mean they fit well into most households. However these gorgeous cats do require a lot attention, as without daily grooming, their coats will become heavily matted, which can be painful for the cat, and may require the fur to be shaved off to remove the matt. They are also known for being quite fussy eaters, and you may find yourself having to put your hand in your pocket to find a food that your Persian finds acceptable.

Another popular breed is the Siamese, which is highly distinctive due to its sleek, slender appearance, and striking contrasting coloured points. Siamese are very affectionate cats, and are not afraid to be vocal about it. They are talkative, and stubborn, meaning that they often refuse to be quiet unless you to attend to their needs, be it food or a warm hug. They are perfect for people who wish to dote on their cat, and spoil them rotten with gourmet treats and fashionable collars.

As well as the variety of breeds available to choose from, there are also thousands of mixed breed cats, or moggies, waiting for loving homes at pet shelters. With the one benefit of having a much lower price tag than their purebred cousins, many moggies tend to have calm temperaments, and many will show endless affection for a human who is willing to provide them with a welcoming home. There will always be a cat suitable for your lifestyle in shelters and rescues, and most often than not, the friendly staff will be at hand to help you choose your perfect pet.

Visit www.netpetshop.co.uk for a large range of cat products, including cat food, cat toys, and cat beds, along with much, much more.

Jackie Shepphard is a veteran in the field of<a

Though, at times, they will be docile, they are prone to a variety of problems: because they are not belted in, they are far more vulnerable to accident and serious injury than human passengers. In addition, they are often rowdy and rambunctious animals; if a pup tries to jump into the driver seat of an automobile from the backseat, the results will be disastrous, especially if the pup puts his paws on the wheel or gets under the driver’s feet. But it seems that the only alternative to this recipe for disaster is to keep your doggy in a cage in the back – difficult to accomplish and lonely for your pooch. The only resolution for that would be a car harness for canines. but that’s impossible!

Or is it?

At last, an automobile harness for pets has been developed. It is a simple belt (not unlike a seat belt) that is designed to secure your pup and keep them in the backseat at all times without relegating them to a cage, as well as keeping them safe as a driver in the event of an accident. In reality, the ‘seat belt’ in this case is a full-body, nylon-polymer harness with a high enough tensile strength to function as a car safety harness, but it does its job admirably, keeping both you and your pets safe.

The seat belt could either loop around an existing seat belt, or, using a slightly more expensive metal attachment, latch into the same slot as an ordinary sfety belt, enabling easy compatibility with any automobile and reducing the amount of work you need to do if you need to move your doggy fast. In addition, the pet safety harness itself comes in four several sizes, each of which is adjustable – eliminating the need for rigorous measurements and enabling you to simply pop it on your doggy when you need to go.

Just making seat belts for people is no longer sufficient. When a doggy is in the backseat without a seat belt, neither the dog nor the people driving it are truly safe. The kindest solution for both doggy and human is to use a pet safety belt – eliminating both the dangers of a potential crash and the sadness of having to cage your dog whenever you want to go on a road trip. Now, both poochs and humans will have a safer time on the road – and, perhaps, a better time.

Justin Thyme is a freelance contributor for pet magazines and websites like <a

It’s disgusting, unattractive, and generally unsafe in many ways. But, you should know that if your dog eats poop, he’s not alone. In fact, it is a fairly common behaviour that can cause a lot of stress for owners. Known as coprophagia, the eating of poop can be a sign of deeper anxiety or nutritional issues.
Dogs will eat poop for any number of reasons. The simplest explanation is that they may be hungry or they might be trying to clean up their space. If you do not feed your dog enough or if they are in a dirty pen, they will work to resolve these issues, often resorting to eating their excrement. There are also health issues related to poop eating. A dog might not be getting enough nutrients due to parasites or worms that suck the nutrients dry of their food. They simply might not be getting the nutrients they need from the dry food they receive each day.

Other dogs will eat poop as an anxious habit, or even because they have seen you picking it up and are trying to mimic your behaviour in their own way. They could also be copying other dogs eating poop. The important thing to know is that no matter why dogs eat poop in your household, the problem can be solved relatively easily. If your dog likes to eat poop, the first thing you should do is check for any health problems. This is especially true if the dog never did it before and has started recently. Dogs that eat poop regularly could have worms or other parasites or may not have enough food. See your vet to determine why this is happening and then treat it immediately.

If your vet gives your dog a clean bill of health, they don’t have any other problems that could lead directly to the issue, and they don’t stop doing it, you need to address whatever other problems might be causing them to eat poop.Start by keeping the yard clean of poop. Remove the poop from your yard every day, check the paths near your home and pick up any poop your dog leaves. It doesn’t matter why dogs eat poop if it is not a health problem – it is behavioural and can be treated by removing the source of the problem. Alternatively, you can take other measures to stop the eating. It might seem strange that bitter apple and cayenne pepper would be worse tasting for a dog than the poop, but they are. Additionally, if you feed you dog a spoonful of pumpkin puree a day, the poop will taste much less appealing to them. You can also spray them with a water bottle or use a sharp “No!” whenever they start to eat poop.

Ultimately, removing the cause of the problem is the easiest way to solve your dog’s coprophagia issues, but if you frequently take you dog to dog parks or let them off the leash outside, you’ll want to take more advanced steps. Be consistent, watch them carefully and by all means, don’t let them lick your face.

If you want to find out more information on <a

Pup wheels help your pet live a long, happy, vigorous life.

Pet wheel chairs are for doggys that are crippled or injured and couldnot walk correctly, or fall frequently. Several manufacturers produce different types of these carts that provide solutions to specific needs of a physically disabled pet. These carts not only make the mobility of your dog possible, but also refine their spirits. Now, you can play with your disadvantaged doggy, despite its maneuverability problems, with the help of a Dog wheel support system.

Pet carts also come in handy while you are traveling to any place and you maynot leave your pooch at home. Once you have bought pooch wheels, you don’t need to leave your handicapped pooch until you return from your voyage. If the dog wheelchair folds flat, as the Walkin’ Wheels does, you could easily transport your doggy with you without any problems. Carts are available in stores and on the web and they are sensibly priced. However, each of these carts are made, keeping in mind the different willine problems. Therefore, it is better to do research and determine the type of Pet cart that is adaptable for your pet before acquiring one.

There are various benefits of purchasing Pet wheel chairs. A primary benefit of a quality cart is its adjustability, so that it may fit pups of assorted sizes and weights and continue to fit as your doggy grows or his tone changes. Only one measurement of the height of the dog is required to buy one, all you need is the approximate height of your dog to determine the wheel size. The best Pet wheel chairs are available to ship next day. They are adjustable and fold able for easy transportation, and the aluminum frame ensures durability. Made of stainless steel, they are also rustproof. The resale value is high and the components and parts will be replaced, if there is any damage. These carts are stylish, with a slick design. Some companies offer return policies on the carts too. The affordable price and high resale value (because it may be adjusted to fit another puppy) is just one more benefit of the carts.

The K9 wheel support system may prevent pets from getting further injured from falling. If a dog’s back legs are weak, he may fall as he tries to stand or walk. These carts can accommodate pups of any size and they provides special advantage to larger pups. Heavy poochs could be impossible to keep and by putting them in a cart, they can move by themselves. Some carts are extremely easy to get a pooch in and out of. Older-style custom made carts like Eddies, Doggygon, and k9 require that the dog be lifted into the cart. This is not necessary with the Walkin’ Wheels.

These Pet wheel support systems are also recommended by veterinarians when rehabilitation is needed. After surgery, during the recovery process, a pooch will get exercise without straining the areas that need extra care. Most owners who have used these carts for their pups believe that their pet benefited from it, and that using the cart improved the life of their beloved pets.

Justin Thyme is a freelance wordsmith for pet magazines and websites like <a

Well renowned for their gentle and sweet personas and their long hair, Persian cats have extremely desirable features. They are excellent companions for virtually anybody, and not very demanding. Unlike other breeds, like the Siamese breed, Persian breeds need very little attention.

Though white is the color normally associated with Persian cats, they actually come in a number of other colors too. During competitions, they are divided into 7 color sections – solid, gold and silver, tabby, shaded and smoke, particolor, bicolor, and Himalayan. Regardless of what colour of Persian cat it might be, they are best noticed during contests by their long and flowing coats.

Persian cats should invariably be kept inside of the house, to safeguard their coat. Should they travel outside, they might very easily damage their coat. They will also need to be brushed everyday using a metallic hair comb, or their coat may become matted, which will result in hairballs. Its important to bathe your Persian cat frequently as well, to help protect his coat. Bathing works best when the cat is young, since it will get him/her used to it. Showering should not be ignored, as it will keep your cats coat looking clean and healthy. Although some breeds can manage their coats on their own, Persians cant. Their fur is long and lustrous and youll need to groom them daily to ensure their coat stays healthy.

The Persian breed is gentle and sweet, getting along great with all people – including kids. They have a pleasurable tone of voice which is always good to hear. Using their voice and their eyes, they can communicate very well with their owners. They are very playful, yet they dont require plenty of attention. They really like attention however, and adore being adored. In contrast to other cats, they dont climb and jump a lot at all. They arent destructive either; they just love being admired and lying around. A lot of the time, Persian cats love to laze in the sunshine and show others exactly how gorgeous they really are.

Even though the majority of varieties could be kept indoors outdoors, Persian cats should always be kept inside and not permitted to go outside of the house. Keeping them inside will protect their coats as well as keep diseases and typical parasites away from them too. You will not need to panic about cars or dogs either if you keep your pet indoors.

To ensure that your Persian pet stays healthy, you should always take him to the vet on an annual basis. If cared for properly, for example grooming, shots, and check-ups, Persian cats can live as long as 20 years. Something youll need to be aware of that is common with Persians is their eyes. Their eyes are extremely big and can sometimes be too much for the cat to wash. This is a common health problem with the breed, and really should be checked regularly to make sure that it does not get out of hand.

When you compare Persians with other breeds, youll notice that the Persians are one of the easiest to keep. You really dont have to worry about things like jumping or climbing, as Persians do not like to do either. All you will need to do is feed your cat and groom him or her on a regular basis. Despite the fact that proper grooming is usually a bit of work in the long run – it is definitely worth it when you have a healthy and beautiful Persian cat.

Considering buying an <a

However, veterinary surgeons around the UK have revealed that there are still common myths which many pet owners still believe today. Below are the ten most common of these:

Dogs can only see in black and white: This is incorrect. Dogs can actually see in colour although they are colour blind when it comes to red and green. A dog’s vision is about six times poorer than a human’s but their night vision is much better.

A cat that is purring is happy and content: This is not necessarily true. Although cats do often purr when they are content and being shown affection, they may also purr when they are in pain, feel anxious or are in discomfort. There is actually no general rule on why and when cats purr.

A dog with a cold and wet nose is a healthy dog: Many dogs will usually have a cold, moist nose but this doesn’t necessarily mean that a warm and dry nose indicates illness, it can be perfectly normal for some dogs. A healthy nose is smooth with no red, inflamed or ulcerated areas. Discharge from the nose may indicate that something is wrong, although dogs often lick this away, so owners must be vigilant.

Dogs will only eat until they are full: This is not so as dogs are descendants of wolves who hunt, scavenge and feed off dead carcasses. It s a natural instinct for dogs to eat as much as is available, as they do not know when their next meal may be. As they are naturally pack animals, it is also beneficial for them to eat as much as possible, in case another pack animal pushes them away.

Milk should be given to cats and is good for them: After cats have been weaned, milk is not required as part of their diet. It can actually be bad for them as their ability to digest the sugar included in milk is reduced. Cats may even become intolerant to milk which can cause diarrhoea. Cats should only ever be given small amounts of milk occasionally or none at all.

Bad breath in dogs is normal: Many dog owners learn to accept their dog’s bad breath as part and parcel of being a dog. However, bad breath is not normal and may be a sign of dental disease which can cause the teeth to erode and gums to become inflamed which is called gingivitis. It may also be an indication of kidney failure or a foreign object stuck in the moth (e.g. part of a stick) that is rotting. Dog owners should use a special pet toothbrush and toothpaste to regularly clean their dog’s teeth (everyday if possible).

Tail wagging means a happy dog: Most of the time this is correct, however, dogs will wag their tails (perhaps not in the same way) when they feel irritated, tense, anxious or as a sign of aggression when they are getting ready to fight.

Scooting along the floor on the bottom means that a dog has worms: This does not necessarily mean worms and more commonly indicates that a dog has a problem with the anal glands whereby they become full and feel very uncomfortable. It is often quite simple for vets to relieve the discomfort by emptying the anal glands.

Neutering or spaying causes weight gain in pets: Castration or spaying causes the metabolism to slow down, meaning that pets burn calories more slowly than before. However, less food and sufficient exercise will prevent weight gain.

Rabbits should be provided with carrots: Contrary to common belief, carrots are not good for rabbits on a regular basis. They contain high levels of sugar and can cause rabbits to gain weight if fed too much and too often. Carrots can be provided occasionally and in moderation, although the green leafy tops alone are much better for rabbits.

For a wide variety of items for any pet, take a look at www.netpetshop.co.uk where you’ll find the best products for less!

Jackie Sheppard is a veteran in the field of <a
